In
the early 1900s, St. Louis entrepreneurs Carl P. Daniel
and Jesse P. Henry shared a vision, a new approach to
the insurance business. They sought to build a full-service
agency where a group of individual brokers could share
common facilities and reduce overhead.
For
more than 86 years, Daniel and Henry's cost-effective
management style has benefited customers and contributed
to client loyalty and the company's growth in a highly
competitive and continuously changing industry. A commitment
that began during the Roaring Twenties - an era of dramatic
civic progress when the downtown St. Louis business
district was the unchallenged hub of regional commerce
- and continues to this day.
The
Daniel and Henry Co. has grown over the years and
today is one of the largest privately owned, independent insurance
brokerage firms in Missouri.
Insuring
People, Their Businesses, Their Community
Daniel and Henry's history of stability and expansion
parallels that of the many companies it insures in the
St. Louis region, from small businesses to multinational
corporations. But from the outset, a source of pride
for members of the firm has been to provide coverage
for well-known local and cultural and civic institutions.
This relationship can be traced to an early act of civic-mindedness:
Daniel and Henry led an initiative to restore the childhood
home of Eugene Field, the children's poet famous for
"Little Boy Blue." The company, joined by
the St. Louis Board of Education, encouraged the city's
schoolchildren to collect pennies to help fund the restoration.
This effort spared the historic home, which now stands
as St. Louis' only museum dedicated to providing a glimpse
of what childhood looked and felt like in the 1800s.
To
commemorate its 75th anniversary in 1996, Daniel and
Henry undertook a civic effort with a similar theme.
In a campaign called "Nickels and Dimes for Forest
Park," the company encouraged every schoolchild
in St. Louis city and county to contribute 25 cents
to help rebuild Forest Park, specifically the entrance
to Steinberg skating rink. The initiative raised enough
funds to renew and beautify the rink, and a plaque honoring
The Daniel and Henry Co.'s role in the project was
installed at the rink.
Beginning
as a St. Louis insurance agency serving area businesses
while aiding the continual growth and renewal of community
and cultural institutions essential to the spirit of
the region, Daniel and Henry now provides a full range
of risk management and insurance products and services
to clients nationally and internationally.
